When a filling isn’t enough to salvage a tooth with a cavity, a dental restoration we refer to as crowns can save the day (and months and years). Crowns can completely cap or encircle the tooth or implant in need of protection. If your treatment plan includes a full crown restoration, we’ll set aside 2-3 appointments for the entire process. The majority of procedures are complete within two visits, but sometimes a 3rd appointment is needed to ensure the most precise fit.
Your first appointment will entail the removal of decay from the affected tooth or teeth. After we’ve removed the decay, we’ll take impressions of the tooth or teeth awaiting crowns and send them to the lab that will craft your restoration. We’ll fit you for a temporary that will resemble your natural teeth while we wait for the finished product.
Your second appointment will take place when we receive your crown. We’ll make every effort to ensure your new tooth feels exactly like the rest of your natural teeth. After cementing the crown, you’ll be able to marvel at your beautifully restored smile.
When crafting your crown, the materials used will vary depending on the location of the tooth or teeth in need of restoration. Your rear teeth will require materials with more strength because of the increased force they receive, whereas your most visible teeth will likely be crowned with ceramic (or porcelain with ceramic substrate) because of its ability to blend beautifully. Some patients also request gold crowns because of their durability. Dr. Flugstad will be happy to go over your options with you in detail.
Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin shells bonded to the fronts of teeth in order to change their color, shape, size, and/or length. Veneers have increased confidence in patients with the following smile concerns:
The application of veneers requires the removal of a small amount of tooth enamel. This creates the space needed for the porcelain veneer to fit within the mouth and function the same way your natural teeth do. With custom-made veneers, you get the added benefit of stain resistance! If you’re wondering whether or not porcelain veneers could be your smile solution, Dr. Flugstad would love to speak with you!
New patients will receive 5 days worth of FREE AT-HOME WHITENING after completion of exam and x-rays and cleaning in absence of gum disease or decay. Not to be combined with insurance or other offers.
I’m a Seattle native that studied Biochemistry at Westmont College in Santa Barbara before returning home to complete my studies at the University of Washington School of Dentistry. It is my strong belief that as a patient, you have an active role in your oral healthcare decisions. My role, along with my team’s, is to provide you with solutions to keep your smile healthy and beautiful, never to pressure you into treatments you don’t want or need. My personal philosophy is that I will not recommend treatment for you that I wouldn’t recommend for my own family.
