Maximize Plaque Bacteria Removal Between Teeth

May 8th, 2017

It’s important that you maximize plaque removal every day through effective tooth brushing and flossing. You must thoroughly clean around both teeth and implants. The best way to clean your implant depends on the stage of your treatment, so you should always ask your Edmonds WA dentist for advice about this.

Immediately following surgical placement of the implant, the wound is often sensitive, so you may not be able to use a toothbrush in that part of your mouth. You can prevent plaque buildup by using antibacterial mouth rinses and/or gels as recommended by your dentist.

Flossing

Flossing is a very important step in removing as much plaque bacteria as possible from between your teeth and around your implant. You can floss at any step in the implant process. It makes your gums healthy and reduces plaque bacteria in the spaces between your teeth, called interdental spaces. Equally as important is interdental brushing.

Interdental Brushing

Because a regular toothbrush does not reach into interdental spaces, you can use special interdental brushes as well as floss to clean the spaces between your teeth. It is very important to clean the spaces adjacent to your dental implant to remove as much plaque bacteria as you can.

Toothpaste Can Do More

Your choice of toothpaste can actually improve the reduction of plaque bacteria from around your implant site, leading to healthy gums and well-maintained implants.
