How to Keep your Christmas Tree Fresh at all times!
If you’re getting a real Christmas tree this season, you’ll want it to last through all the ho-ho-hos and tidings of comfort and joy. Here’s what you should do to make sure your Christmas trees last through the holiday season.
Selection
The best way to ensure the most beautiful Christmas tree is to cut your own from a local farm, or to have one cut for you.
If you are buying a pre-cut tree from a nursery, store or scout troop, ask them how recently they were harvested, and where they came from. Also inspect them yourself by feeling the needles: they should be flexible, not dry and brittle. The fresher the tree, the longer it will last in your living room.
5 Steps to keep the tree fresh
First, cut off an inch from the bottom of the tree at an angle. Get a big bucket. Add a gallon of warm water to it. Then mix in two cups of light corn syrup, four teaspoons of chlorine bleach, and two teaspoons of plant food (like Miracle Gro). Mix.
One final tip: make sure you tree is in a safe spot, away from any heating sources like furnace vents and fireplaces.
